AT-HOME FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE LAB TESTING

Test, don't guess! Take out the mystery behind your health frustrations with functional lab testing and identify the root cause imbalances behind your health concerns so you can start your path to healing!

What is Functional Medicine Lab Testing?

Not sure what your next step should be? Feeling healthy and whole again starts with understanding exactly what’s going on inside your body.

Comprehensive testing is one of the most valuable tools in an integrative approach approach to health. It’s how we get to the root cause behind your symptoms so you can restore your health from the inside out.

The right testing reveals the underlying imbalances, deficiencies, pathogens, and toxic exposures contributing to your symptoms and provides us with progress markers along the way.

There is no need to struggle and guess when testing provides a clear path back to health!

Uncover what’s really behind your most problematic symptoms with one of our go-to labs. These tests will give you the foundational information needed to develop a plan for healing.

Why conventional bloodwork isn't enough...

“Your bloodwork came back normal, we can’t find anything wrong with you…”

This is what I heard from my doctor when I was facing my deepest health issues and something my clients often hear before coming to the functional medicine side of healthcare seeking answers.

Bloodwork can be helpful to a degree and in some cases, but often just simply isn’t enough.

One thing often overlooked and why blood work really isn’t always enough to show what’s actually going on in our bodies is it doesn’t show what’s going on at a tissue or cellular level – just what’s floating around in our blood at that time.

Our blood is what we call a “homeostatic fluid” meaning its job is to remain in balance at all times. In order to maintain balance in a blood level, it’ll gladly steal from every other part of the body necessary to keep blood levels to stay “balanced.”

For example, it will pull calcium from bones (which years later leads to osteoporosis,) to maintain the pH of the blood if we are too acidic. It will pull fatty acids from organs or even the eyes to maintain it in the blood level (meanwhile causing oxidative stress to the organs.)

In the blood everything looks “normal,” at a tissue, organ and cellular level it’s not. This is why many people are told everything is fine and normal even though they don’t feel that way.

That’s because the condition or imbalance haven’t manifested so far as to throw off the blood yet. In many cases, it can take decades for our blood to become imbalanced, and by the time it happens, we typically get a diagnosis.

Limitation of blood work #2...

The other limitation of blood work (if something is bad enough to show that something is out of balance,) is that conventional ranges of what’s considered “normal” or “in range” isn’t what would be considered optimal ranges.

The range is simply too wide. As a functional practitioner, we have different ranges considered “optimal” for you based on your body type, age, sex, etc.

To understand our symptoms (especially when bloodwork is “normal,” or just showing minor imbalances, we have to look deeper at an organ, tissue and cellular level.

This is done through what we call sub-clinical or functional lab testing, which is a completely different form of healthcare, where we use testing via saliva, urine, stool, hair tissue etc to zoom out and see how the body is functioning overall at deeper level.

Which test is right for you?

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis Test (HTMA)

Minerals provide you with the energy to get through a busy day and buffer the effects of stress. Your body needs minerals like potassium, magnesium and sodium to function optimally.

When your essential minerals /electrolytes become low or reach high and toxic levels of heavy metals, your whole-body and mental health are impacted. A mineral imbalance can cause you to become tired more easily and affects your mood, mental clarity and more.

This test requires a small hair sample and provides a 90-day snapshot of your body’s minerals and metals.

WHO THIS IS FOR

If you’re dealing with higher-than-normal rates of stress, exhaustion, anxiety, or overwhelm, this is the first test to reach for. This lab is an ideal starting point for individuals experiencing:

  • High Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Overwhelm
  • Learning Disabilities (Children)
  • Mood disturbances
  • Low energy or exhaustion
  • Headaches
  • Skin rashes
  • Tingling/numbness

YOU’LL DISCOVER

  • Insights into heavy metals your body is carrying, and how these might be impacting your overall health
  • Whether you’re experiencing a deficiency of any vital minerals—and if so, which ones
  • Critical information about your body’s metabolic adaptability and more.

Organic Acids Test (OAT)

If you were to run only one lab test to assess the overall state of your digestion, gut bacterial balance, and gut health, it would be this lab. Using just this simple at-home, urine collection lab you can assess how well your digestive system is functioning, along with your energy and mood markers.

With over 75 biomarkers, the OAT offers a comprehensive snapshot of your overall health. It will show you exactly what your deficiencies are in terms of vitamins, energy mitochondria producers, neurotransmitter levels, and detoxifiers.

This test provides an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria so you can determine whether these microorganisms may be contributing to your symptoms and uncover the deepest root causes of why you’re not feeling well, including gut issues.

High or unbalanced levels of these microorganisms can cause symptoms related to immune function, fatigue and more, plus they can impact existing disorders related to mood and neurological function.

The OAT is a test for those who want a deeper, more detailed analysis of the major factors that may be impacting their gut, energy, mood and overall health

WHO THIS IS FOR

This test is a great starting point to uncover the root cause behind why you’re not feeling your best. We recommend this test for people who are suffering with:

  • Digestive Issues
  • Bloating
  • Gas
  • Acid Reflux
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Mood Irregularities
  • Immune Dysfunction

YOU’LL DISCOVER

  • Determine whether harmful microorganisms like intestinal yeast and bacteria are present in your system
  • Obtain deeper insights into your vitamin and mineral levels and learn whether you have any key deficiencies
  • Learn whether you’re deficient in energy mitochondria producers, neurotransmitter metabolites, detoxifiers and more

GI Microbial Assay Plus (GI-MAP) with Parasitology

Research overwhelmingly indicates that gut health impacts overall health. The gut microbiome, in particular, plays a critical role in mediating the effects of diet and other factors on health, including digestive, immune, metabolic and neuroendocrine functions. Assessing gut health with the proper tools can help practitioners get to the root cause of chronic health issues.

If you’ve been dealing with months (or years) of digestive issues, you owe it to yourself to figure out once and for all what is going on inside your gut. This test will help pinpoint the causes of gastrointestinal symptoms and other chronic conditions by measuring key markers of digestion, absorption and inflammation.

The GI-MAP comprehensive stool test also uses qPCR technology to detect parasites, bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and more. This comprehensive at-home lab test can provide the answers at the root cause level that can help bring your body back into balance and health.

WHO THIS IS FOR

If you’ve been dealing with months (or years) of digestive issues, this is our go-to lab to investigate deeper. This lab is an ideal lab for individuals experiencing:

  • Digestive Issues
  • Bowel Dysfunction
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal Pain / Cramps
  • Brain Fog / Fatigue
  • Chronic Stress
  • Headaches
  • Nausea/Vomiting
  • Blood or Mucus in Stools

YOU’LL DISCOVER

  • If the presence or overgrowth of pathogens (parasites, bacteria, fungus, yeast or viruses) may be contributing to your gut issues
  • Critical digestive health markers that reflect the overall state of your gut

Stress (Hormones), Mood & Metabolism Test

Adrenal, thyroid, and sex hormone like (estrogen and progesterone) imbalances are the crux of many of the most common health issues women experience. From depleted moods and energy levels, to slow metabolism, to decreased libido—if you’re dealing with any type of lowered mood or struggling to lose weight, it may be time to get this test.

This simple saliva and finger-prick style test measures you thyroid levels, adrenal hormones, and female hormonal levels to determine whether imbalance in one of these key areas could be behind your symptoms.

The other issue is that even if your hormones are in the right lab range, they must be in the right ratio with their counter balancing hormone (Ie. estrogen dominance or elevated venting cortisol).

For all these reasons and more, discovering your own levels of healthy hormones and the other cofactors empowers you with what you need to live a life full of passion, energy, and vitality!

WHO THIS IS FOR

If you’re dealing with any type of lowered mood, metabolism or mojo or suspect your thyroid or hormones may be contributing to your health issues, it’s time to get tested. We recommend this test for people who are suffering with:

  • Low Energy
  • Low Mood
  • Low Libido
  • Weight gain
  • Puffiness / Water Retention
  • Anxiety / Depression
  • Brain Fog
  • Thinning, Brittle Hair

YOU’LL DISCOVER

  • Whether you may be dealing with hypo or hyperthyroidism.
  • Whether adrenal imbalance could be contributing to your fatigue, body aches, weight fluctuations, and more.
  • Whether your female sex hormones are balanced appropriately

...and many more!
